Wiesbauer GTK1100 landmarks

17 October 2011

German crane rental company Wiesbauer passed a landmark when its Grove GTK1100 erected its 50th wind turbine in four years.

Three 2 MW wind turbines were assembled in nine days for Abo Wind. The project included mast erection and nacelle and rotor blade installation.

Jochen Wiesbauer, managing director, said the crane has been consistently busy. "The GTK is the most efficient way to install a wind turbine," he said. "It offers the best combination of capacity and overall ease-of-use. It is simple to transport, quick to setup and can erect a wind turbine in just three days - with very little support."

Following its arrival on site in Frieburg using five trailers, the crane was erected in less than a day. Turbine erection commenced with the four mast sections, giving a tower height of 95 metres. The 68 tonne nacelles were lifted to more than 100 m. To install the nine rotor blades, an assist crane was used by the four-man crew. The 220 tonne capacity GMK5220 all terrain helped the GTK manoeuvre the 38 tonne loads into position.
