Laso moves longest blade

Portuguese transport company Laso Transportes has completed the transportation of an 84-metre-long SG170 wind turbine blade for onshore use. To move the blade Laso used a Mercedes SLT tractor with a 250 tonne torque converter, a Nooteboom adapter with inter dolly, a five-axis dolly with hydraulic suspension to compensate for blade inclinations.

The blade was moved across the city of Aveiro – from Portuguese turbine blade manufacturer Fabrica Riablades’ factory to the city’s port. Laso claims it is the largest wind turbine blade to be produced in the Iberian Peninsula to date.

It is being shipped to Denmark where tests are being conducted. Laso said that, once testing has been completed, over the next four years more than 1,800 blades will be produced.
