Last held in 2020 virtually, this year’s in-person Tower Cranes North America Conference is sure to attract a crowd of industry experts. Organized by KHL Group and its magazines American Cranes & Transport and International Cranes and Specialized Transport, Tower Cranes North America is officially supported by SC&RA.
The 2022 Tower Cranes North America Conference will be held in Miami, FL from June 21-22.
Talking all things tower cranes, the conference program will address key issues facing tower crane owners and users, including risk mitigation, safety, crane inspections, wind monitoring, construction activity forecasts and legislation.
Manitowoc’s Aaron Ravenscroft will be making his first appearance at a KHL crane event and kicking off TCNA with his keynote address titled “The Electrification of America.”

In this important address, Ravenscroft will argue that European-style electric tower cranes represent an “untapped solution” in America to combat climate change concerns.
Ravenscroft will share “Manitowoc’s perspectives on how tower cranes can meaningfully contribute to environmental sustainability strategies while delivering compelling economic benefits to customers in the long-term.”
Lawrence Shapiro, co-principal, Howard | Shapiro Associates Consulting Engineers, will be diving into the challenges associated with tower cranes on high-rise buildings in urban areas. As the market sees a revival and many metropolitan construction projects resume, it’s important to be educated about conflicts that may arise on a jobsite.
With a training presentation going hand in hand with operator safety, Chris Smith, corporate service manager for Morrow, will discuss training for erection, dismantling and operation.
Philippe Cohet, CEO at Uperio Group, one of the largest tower crane owners in the world, will be presenting his know-how on fleet management. Uperio is rapidly growing with continued gains throughout the last several years. Most recently, Uperio is set to acquire fellow tower crane business LaurentKeller in France.
Wire rope, a small but mighty component to any crane operation, is a rapidly evolving area. Three wire rope experts from ASC Industries Python America, Bridon-Bekaert The Ropes Group, and WireCo WorldGroup will give a group presentation on development in wire rope technology.
“I will speak briefly on the history of the construction of the tower crane hoist crane ropes to the present,” said Tony Fastuca, vice president, ASC Industries Python America, “and my colleagues will discuss new developments on inspection criteria, which is critical for proper use.”
Joining Fastuca are Dave Sleightholm, manager, customer technical support, Bridon-Bekaert, The Ropes Group, and Tim Klein, principal engineer – structures and fabrication, WireCo WorldGroup.
A much-anticipated roundtable led by Lior Avitan, CEO and co-founder of UltraWis, and Aviv Carmel, co-CEO and co-founder of Skyline, will open up the discussion surrounding remote control tower cranes, automation and the future of this advanced and quickly growing technology. “Tower cranes and the connected worksite” will address the wider topic of crane automation.
Bill Carbeau from Linden Comansa America and Javier Militino from Comansa in Spain, are set to educate the audience with their presentation titled “Using tower cranes on bridges.”
Jim Wiethorn, engineering specialist, founder and chairman, International Crane and Construction Safety Solutions, will dive into understanding wind loadings on cranes.
Massimo Cappello, director of product management, Terex Tower Cranes, will discuss how today’s telematics are more than just fleet management.
Jean-Philippe Fonck, a sales engineer at French tower crane technology specialist AMCS Technologies, will show how anti-collision systems have evolved to adapt to the real-world constraints found on construction sites. He will discuss innovation and the developments in relation to specific projects in North America and Europe.
“Anti-collision systems are a valuable resource for improving productivity on jobsites,” he said. “We want the audience to understand the capacity of technical solutions to quickly adapt to customer needs from both a mechanical and electrical point of view, as well from the perspective of software design.”
Following the day’s presentations, attendees are invited to a farewell drinks reception where they can reunite with old faces and network with new at the conclusion of the conference.
