Wolffkrans in central Frankfurt

02 December 2009

Construction works for the new Tower 185 skyscraper in downtown Frankfurt have been in full swing since the start of 2009.

The top floor of the two-tower development will reach 185 m. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. Due to the spatial constraints and tight schedule on the construction site, it is essential that the on-site construction machinery delivers a high level of performance and fast operation, says Wolffkran.

To fulfill this task, Wolffkran delivered five new cranes: three Wolff 355 Bs and two Wolff 180 Bs. The pack of five luffers have been in use since the Spring of this year.

The construction site, which is situated between the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre, the main station and the banking district, is bordered by busy main roads and numerous high-rise apartment buildings.

The Wolff luffers provide considerable space savings on this tight construction site and deliver cost savings to the client, says the manufacturer. When in weathervane mode, there is no risk of the cranes colliding with the adjoining buildings. There is also no need for extreme hook heights, as is necessary for trolley jib tower cranes, adds Wolffkran.
