Wagenborg adds 60 tonne hybrid all terrain crane

Sustainability was a key factor in Wagenborg Nedlift’s decision to add a hybrid all terrain crane to its rental fleet.

The Dutch lifting and transport specialist said consideration for the environment is part of its long term corporate vision and that customers are beginning to ask for emission-free equipment.

Later in 2024 Wagenborg will take delivery of the 60 tonne capacity XCA60 EV hybrid all terrain crane from Chinese manufacturer XCMG. It will come in via importer Blue Sky Equipment BV.

The three-axle XCA60 EV has a 48 metre telescopic boom and a maximum hoisting height, with the addition of a 16 metre jib, of 63 metres. It was shown in Europe at the Bauma construction equipment trade show in October 2022.

World first

Wagenborg said it will be the first crane company in the world to serve its customers completely emission-free. Unlike some hybrid cranes which just run the crane upper electrically, this one can also be driven electrically, the company said.

The acquisition process began in 2019 when Wagenborg approached crane suppliers for a serially produced hybrid all terrain crane. It needed to be CE-certified and approved by the Dutch certification and inspection body TCVT. European components in the XCA60 EV help it meet the requirements. Delivery will include an EN 13000 certification and it will undergo an inspection by RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority.

Joint development

Hu Yuan, European sales manager for XCMG, commented, “We are extremely satisfied with the development of our XCA60 EV. To build the perfect machine for the European market we relied on the knowledge and expertise of the Wagenborg people. Without them it would have been extremely difficult to develop this crane. We hope that this crane will be the first in a series.”

Wagenborg tested the crane in 2023 and helped develop it. Gerard Bastiaansen, Wagenborg managing director, said, “The demo crane is far from the final model we have now ordered. Our technical department and operators have had a prominent role in the whole design and production process of the demo crane towards the final XCA60 EV. Sharing all kinds of improvements with our supplier XCMG and Aboma’s contribution has resulted in a machine that exceeds our requirements. I am particularly proud that Wagenborg is the first crane company in Western Europe to be able to present this completely emission-free crane this summer.”
