International transport and lifting specialist Mammoet has received a new Volvo FH16 tractor unit for heavy transport.

Netherlands-based Mammoet will use the 600 hp truck in Europe. Without using a torque converter the gross vehicle weight with the FH16 8x4 tridem can be up to 180 tonnes.

Commenting on the new acquisition, Adam Louwen, Mammoet Europe senior transportation planner, said, “Our experiences so far have been overwhelmingly positive. The vehicle is performing very well and also the fuel consumption, despite a heavy commitment, is favorable. The latter we thank in particular the fact that the vehicle has no torque converter.”

A 900 gallon fuel tank is fitted behind the cab to give the driver more freedom in where and when the vehicle is refuelled. Also fitted is an I-Shift Heavy Duty package. “The first experiences of our drivers are very positive,” Louwen said.
