Link-Belt has added new features to its 140 US ton (120 tonne) capacity HTC-3140 and long boom version HTC-3140 LB truck cranes.

The new 3140s now have Cummins engines in the upper and in lower. The upper uses the Tier 4i/Stage IIIB QSB 6.7 engine with 215 horsepower (160 kW) and 685 foot-pounds (929 Nm) of torque.

The lower uses Cummins' 2010 EPA emissions-compliant ISX15 with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). It produces 581 horsepower (434 kW) and 1,850 foot-pounds (2 508 Nm) of torque.

Mated to the new engine is an Eaton UltraShift Plus transmission with 11 forward speeds, 3 reverse speeds and no-clutch-pedal shifting. The transmission's Hill Start Aid prevents roll-back or roll-forward when launching on inclines, simplifying operations for even the most inexperienced driver, said the manufacturer. The crane also has a two-speed auxiliary transmission for precise jobsite travel. On the road, the 3140 can top 65 mph (104.6 km/h).

Another feature is the in-house designed Pulse operating system. It monitors multiple crane functions, including real-time latching boom operation, counterweight removal and installation, and has diagnostic capabilities. It also functions as a rated capacity limiter with indicators for maximum allowable load, load on hook, overload, crane geometry, wind speed, and two-block conditions.

Also new is a redesigned cab with new gauges and revised control placement. The upper cab tilts up to 20 degrees. It has new outrigger operation with self levelling the same as on the ATC-3275.

Despite the upgrades, the 3140 has gained no weight, claimed the manufacturer.
