Lifting and specialist transport service provider Prangl, based in Austria, provided lifting services for the construction of a new nitric acid plant in Hungary.

The Pétfürdő plant, 100 km south west of Budapest, is made up of two ammonium nitrate production plants, with an additional plant for the fertiliser industry under construction.

For the construction of the third plant, Prangl was contracted to install a granulation system. The task involved lifting a 116 tonne dryer, a 61 tonne washing system, a 28 tonne chimney base and additional components into an existing 26 metre high steel structure.

All lifting operations were performed outside the plant using two cranes. The dryer was hoisted in horizontally in a tandem lift by 500 and 700 tonne capacity telescopic cranes.

To install the washer unit, 500 and 100 tonne capacity wheeled mobile cranes were used to open the tank and position the washer. The chimney base was installed using the 500 tonner.
