French transportation company Transports Stex has selected three flatbed semi-trailers from manufacturer Faymonville to work on its wind power projects.

With its three extensions each trailer can carry rotor blades with a length 60 metres and more. The trailers (also known as WingMax) have pendular axles and a suspension stroke of 600 mm and a steering angle up to 60 degrees.

The larger stroke and increased ground clearance improve manoeuvrability in difficult-to-access areas such as roundabouts. Pendular axles, together with the greater steering angle, are said to help balance the vehicle on winding roads.

Another claimed advantage is the rear slide-out extendable platforms which modify the overhang and increase or reduce the pivoting radius as required. This slide-out rear extension also helps counteract the bending found with extremely long loads and offers greater flexibility for the placement of rotor blades.
