Sembcorp Marine has ordered 28 cranes from Palfinger Dreggen for its Jurong Shipyard subsidiary in Singapore.

The US$ 117 million contract includes the supply of cranes for seven drill ships to Sete Brasil. Each vessel will have two 85 tonne capacity DKF2000 pedestal mounted knuckle boom cranes and two 63 tonne capacity DKW2000 pedestal mounted wire luffing cranes.

The Espadon drill ships will be built to work on oil and gas discoveries in the offshore pre-salt fields of the Santos Basin. They will be built at Sembcorp Marine’s new Brazilian shipyard, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz Ltd. Based on the Jurong Espadon design, they will be capable of operating at a water depth of 3.05 km and drilling to a depth of 12.2 km.

The contract will make use of the existing co-operation with the Brazilian company Koch Metalúrgica SA, the company said. Delivery is scheduled for between 2014 and 2017.
