Oil and gas construction services provider Saipem, in Portugal, has completed a 550 tonne load test on a derrick barge.

The test was carried out at Point Noire in the Congo. Saipem used 100 tonnes of solid weights and thirteen 35 tonne water load test bags supplied by Unique Seaflex, a manufacturer of air-filled bags for salvage and installation operations.

For the test the equipment was flown from the Unique Seaflex facility in the UK to the Congo.

Chris Sparrow, Unique Seaflex’s global sales manager, said, “This is a perfect example of several unique and vitally important benefits to clients of working with Unique Seaflex on such projects.

“The bags have been designed, constructed, certified and tested in line with LEEA Guidance 051 so the client can be assured that what they are getting has the necessary levels of quality and traceability to satisfy their HSE requirements and to keep their insurers happy.”
