Quayside tracking

29 June 2010

Breuer & Wasel in Germany used a Liebherr LR 1600/2 lattice boom crawler crane to lift a stator, the steel housing of a power generator, onto an inland waterway vessel headed for its original manufacturing plant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The 600 tonne capacity crane was rigged with 42 m of main boom, a derrick system, 150 tonnes of superstructure ballast, 65 tonnes of central ballast and 330 tonnes of suspended ballast.

Once the load had been taken up from the railway wagon, the crawler crane had to move several metres backwards so that steel plates could be laid over the rails. The crane then travelled with the load until it was close enough to the quayside wall to lower it down. The boom was set at 16 m radius for the lift.
