Previewing June’s TCNA conference

Sam Moyer, general manager at ALL Tower Crane – one of the largest tower crane rental businesses in North America – will give the keynote address at the Tower Cranes North America (TCNA) conference in Nashville on June 11 and 12.

Returning to the United States in 2024, the Tower Cranes North America conference promises important discussions about the market, safety, trends and technology, risk management and more. The entire program will be published in April 2024.

Moyer, a professional engineer who joined the ALL Family of Companies 10 years ago and who has led ALL Tower Crane for the last six years, will look at the various ways the industry has evolved and discuss how these indicators will shape future trends.

The conference, organized by American Cranes & Transport and International Cranes and Specialized Transport magazines, in exclusive partnership with the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA), is the only conference and networking event for North America’s tower crane industry in 2024. The conference will include presentations on the legal aspects of tower crane contracts; preparing for severe weather; a roundtable discussion about crane erection, climbing and disassembly; and a case study on the fascinating Crazy Horse Memorial project in South Dakota.

Risk management

Attorney Jesse Callahan, with May Potenza Baran & Gillespie, will discuss the importance of ‘borrowed servant’ language in tower crane rental contracts. The attorney team – Darrell Barger, Harline Barger; Clayton Callen, Bowman and Brooke; and Anna Dodds, Harline Barger – that argued and won a monumental case in Dallas last year will discuss the trial and how they proved liability rested with the contractor/developer.

Using technology to improve safety in lifting operations (provisional title) Casey Savlov, executive vice president at Vita Industrial, will discuss how to use technology to improve safety in lifting operations.

Keynote address, Sam Moyer, general manager, ALL Tower Crane LLC.

A panel discussion moderated by International Cranes Editor Alex Dahm will cover tower crane procedures, including assembly, climbing and disassembly. The panel includes Matt Finnerty, owner, Finnco Services; Kelly Hadland, president, Compass Equipment (a division of Uperio); JR Moran, director of crane operations, Brasfield & Gorrie; and Chris Noblit, director of engineering and service, Tower Cranes North America, Manitowoc.

Severe wind and weather conditions and tower crane operations will be addressed by Jim D. Wiethorn, founder and chairman, Crane Risk Logic.

Morrow Equipment President and COO Peter Juhren will give a site report on the Crazy Horse Memorial in Crazy Horse, South Dakota.

Synthetic rope versus wire rope: the two distinctions will be discussed by Timothy W. Klein, principal engineer, structures and fabrication, WireCo; and Tony Fastuca, vice president, ASC Industries/Python America/Slingmax Rigging Products.

Must-attend event

TCNA will bring together senior management and decision makers from crane users and owners (rental companies and general contractors), crane manufacturers, dealers and ancillary equipment suppliers. The conference program is still being developed and will reflect the most relevant topics and challenges in this sector. High profile speakers will deliver presentations sharing their knowledge of tower crane operation and ownership.
