New heavy lift vessel for BigLift

BigLift Shipping has named its new heavy lift vessel at a name-giving ceremony at Huisman China’s new quay side in Zhangzhou, China.

The vessel, named Happy Sky, was built by Larsen & Toubro in India. It has two 900 tonne capacity heavy lift mast cranes built by Huisman and commissioned at Huisman China.

The ceremony was performed by Erni Bartel, partner of Joop Rodenburg, Huisman CEO. The event took place alongside the opening of Huisman China’s new 380 metre long quay side, which has a 2,400 tonne travelling quay side crane named Sky Hook.

Happy Sky is 155 m long and has an 18,680 tonne deadweight. The structure of the vessel offers a single, large cargo hold and a wide, open deck area.

In addition, the tween deck is adjustable in height and the vessel can sail with open weather deck hatches at a draught of up to 7.5 m, the company said. The first voyage for the vessel, which has Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice Class notation, will be to Cape Lambert Port B, Phase B project in Australia.

Happy Sky is the first of two Happy S Class vessels to be added to the BigLift fleet. Happy Star will follow early in 2014.
