Mammoet mega jack towers ready for work

By Niamh Marriott12 October 2021

Ten new towers for Mammoet’s Mega Jack 800 are now available and being deployed to projects.

The system has a lifting capacity of 800 tonnes per tower

Originally designed to operate on barges to support the installation of bridges, Mammoet first introduced the Mega Jack 800 system in 2014. Since then, the jacking system has also been used for civil infrastructure developments, port expansions and in the construction of petrochemical plants.

The system has a lifting capacity of 800 tonnes per tower.

“The system has been fully engineered in house with assembly, testing and commissioning done in the Mammoet R&D facility in Breda,” said Ronald Hoefmans, head of R&D and fabrication at Mammoet.

“As frequent users of jacking systems we have extensive expertise and understand precisely what is important; what capacity the system needs, and what features are necessary to ensure safe and reliable operation.”

Automated action

The system has a stroke control system designed to spread the load

The system is remotely controlled and has a stroke control system designed to spread the load over the different cylinders in the system, allowing for simultaneous operation of the towers.

The automation means less human interaction and therefore higher onsite safety, the company said.

“The towers are designed to operate with any power pack, including more sustainable electrical packs,” Hoefmans continued.
