Locked off

26 February 2008

Castell Iso-Lok in has developed a new padlock to ensure that machines out of service cannot be restarted until all personnel have completed their work on the machine.

The Multi-Clasp has room for six padlocks, allowing multiple workers to lock off the same machine. The lock will not open until each padlock has been removed.

It has a standard fixed-width hasp shape, with a high-visibility, colour-coded, polyester powder coated finish.

A company spokesperson said that lock-out and tag-out systems are usually used during machinery maintenance. “This simple, reassuringly mechanical method of improving personnel safety is as reliably effective as it is straightforward.”
