Lifthing uses Enerpac gantry at Belgian hospital
22 November 2018
Belgian industrial installation company Lifthing has completed the installation of proton therapy units at the University Hospitals Leuven (UZ Leuven) – Belgium’s first proton therapy centre, located at UZ Leuven’s Gasthuisberg campus.
Two units weighing 57 tonnes and a 75 tonne unit were installed by first skidding them along the tracks of Lifthing’s Enerpac SBL500 gantry. The gantry was then used to lower them into position. According to Lifthing, it used a gantry rather than a mobile crane due to space restrictions in the clinical treatment bunkers.
“Gentle and accurate handling was essential when handling the synchrocyclotrons and therapy unit,” said Pieterjan Van Iseghem, managing director at Lifting. “The Enerpac SBL500 gantry, equipped with header beam, powered side shifts and wireless control, gave us the lifting capability and precise positioning we needed for this important project.”
