Construction company Sera Yapi Construction (Sera), based in Turkey, is using 14 Liebherr tower cranes to help with the development of Emaar Square in Camlica, Istanbul.

The development is one of the largest private sector projects in Turkey. Twelve of the tower cranes have been leased on a 24-month rental agreement from Atilla Dural Mumessillik Insaat Turizm Tic Ltd, Liebherr’s distributor for Turkey. The remaining two towers are owned by Sera, a spokesperson added.

The tower cranes on site include 6 tonne capacity flat top 130 EC-B 6, 6 tonne high-top 154 EC-H 6 Litronic, and 8 tonne high-top 132 EC-H 8 units. Also there is a fast erecting 68K configured with a 30 metre jib and 3 tonne capacity. The two units owned by Sera Yapi are both 154 EC-H 6 Litronic models.

Banu Aydin, project co-ordinator for Sera Yapi, said, “We decided on a rental agreement rather than purchase, given the large amount of cranes required. We worked directly with Atilla Dural to select units that could be operated closely in tandem, enabling us to finely calculate lifting cycles and construction times.”

For the first stage of the project the Liebherr towers were used on the installation of the foundations.

The development will include seven high-rise towers, a five star hotel, residential and business units, a shopping mall, a discovery centre, an ice rink, a 2,400 seat cinema complex and a five storey underground car park, a spokesperson said. Due to the location of the site, the buildings have an earthquake resistant design.

Emaar Square is being developed by Emaar Turkey, part of Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC. It is due for completion by 2017.
