Liebherr-Werk Ehingen sold its 7,500th used crane, an LTM 1030/2, to German rental company Stahlbau Lang

At the beginning of 2010 Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH, based in Germany, delivered its 7,500th used crane since the production plant was established in 1969.

Stahlbau Lang, based in Eimeldingen, Germany took ownership of the Liebherr LTM 1030/2 all terrain crane in January. Thirty years ago Stahlbau Lang bought a new LT 1030 all terrain from Liebherr and it is now being replaced by the 35 tonne capacity LTM 1030/2, which is suited to steel construction carried out by the company. The LT 1030 has already been sold to an operator in North Africa.

According to Stahlbau Lang partner Peter Käse, buying a used crane comes with risks, so the choice was made to purchase from the manufacturer. "This means we have the security of the skill and competence of the manufacturer to rely on, with their own repair centre. It also means that we have an inspection carried out by Liebherr at the same time, and arrangements made for the issue of TÜV and UVV tech-nical approvals," said Käse.

Another advantage of buying used equipment from a manufacturer like Liebherr, says Käse, is the wide range of used cranes available. Liebherr operates its own repair centres at its plants in Ehingen, Oberhausen and at Alt Bork, near Berlin, as well as in other countries. According to Liebherr, it sells hundreds of used cranes every year.
