Largest ever crawler crane to Ecuador

By Niamh Marriott10 August 2022

In a significant milestone for the Ecuadorian market, Trex, a company of the Ferreycorp corporation and a specialist in lifting equipment, introduced the first and largest crawler crane in the country to Consorcio Noroccidental Atlas (CNA), a joint venture between Transportes Noroccidental and Grúas Atlas.

The crane, a Tadano CC 2800-1 NT model, presents a lifting range of up to 175 meters in its maximum configuration.

The unit will be used especially in the construction of wind energy and other renewable energy projects in Ecuador, contributing to their efficiency.

A typical application for the NT (Narrow Track) version of the 600 tonne capacity CC 2800-1 is to erect groups of wind turbines on the often-remote wind farm sites where access roads are 5 m wide. Turbines with hub heights up to 142 m can be accommodated. Read more about the crane here.

“This powerful equipment will engage in projects that promote the development of Ecuador and create local jobs– from CNA, we are committed to support the growth of our country,” said Edgar Andrade, general director of CNA.

“With the addition of the CC 2800-1 NT, CNA has now the most significant fleet of specialized transport and lifting equipment to make possible key projects nationwide.”

Gonzalo Salazar, Trex country manager in Ecuador and Colombia, added, “This type of machinery will complement the specialized equipment of CNA, and it will be installed and operated by specialized Ecuadorian personnel.”

Tadano said its crawler cranes are easy to transport and, once on site, set up quickly.

This model can improve the planning in civil works of tracks between platforms, optimizing movement times of the crane in them and during the assembly of the towers.
