A Sennebogen 613 telescopic crawler begins work to help renovate the Sydney Opera House in Australia

Construction company the John Holland Group is using a Sennebogen 613 telescopic crawler crane to help renovate the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

The John Holland Group has been contracted as part of an AUS$ 100 million (US$ 89 million) project to make an open area in front of the Opera House safer and more clearly arranged for pedestrians.

The development will include an underground loading area, new entry routes, and a sewer with storage capacity and overflow for possible storm tides, a company spokesperson said.

The Sennebogen 613 was hired from Preston group. It has capacity of 16 tonnes and is fitted with a 35 kN winch. Power comes from a 91 kW Deutz diesel engine. The crawler is being used to help construct the foundations of the sub-construction. Tasks include lifting 3 tonne steel mesh netting pipes into bores, a spokesperson said. For the project the crawler has been fitted with a drilling rig.

Work is due to be completed in 2014.
