Ice road transport for Van der Vlist

Specialized transport company Van der Vlist helped transport materials for a new car tyre manufacturing facility in Ulyanovsk, south western Russia.

The company was tasked with transporting equipment in boxes measuring up to 3.75 metres long, 2.72 m wide and 1.69 m high. The cargo shipped in by flatrack from Japan to the port of St Petersburg. On arrival at the port, Van der Vlist used six trucks to move the cargo to the Van der Vlist facility in St Petersburg.

On arrival at the depot, a 50 tonne mobile crane was used to unload the flat racks and lift the cargo onto a 3-axle low loader. The boxes weighed around 8 tonnes each.

Once secured on the low loaders, the cargo was transported 1,600 km from the facility to the construction site in Ulyanovsk. Along the way the transport endured ice and snow. The temperatures went as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
