A Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 mobile crane during the installation of an Enercon E-101 wind power plant

Crane company Karl Hartinger Kranbetrieb (Hartinger), based in Warburg-Rimbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany used a Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 to install 3 MW turbines at a wind energy plant in Preussisch Oldendorf.

The Enercon E-101 wind turbines have a hub height of 99 metres. To install the turbines, the LTM 11200-9.1 was configured with an 82 m telescopic boom with Y-pattern guying and a 31.6 m lattice jib. The hydraulically luffable 6.5 m long luffing lattice jib was also used. The lifting gear and hook block came to a total of 66.5 tonnes.

Tjerk Thomiczek, crane operator, said, β€œThe hydraulically luffable lattice jib is unbeatable on this crane, because I can set up the entire E-101 from a single position. I never have to reposition – that's a huge advantage. Over the course of the installation, the extension was namely reduced from 19 m to about 10 m.”

Other advantages of the Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 included a short set-up time, small footprint when working on site. In addition, little ballast needed to be transported to the work site, a spokesperson said. When setting up the E-101, the LTM 11200-9.1 required only 102 tonnes of ballast.
