UK rental business Hewden has appointed three experienced directors to its management team.

Former Hydrex and Speedy manager Mike Omond joins in the new role of operations director – plant; Edward Carr, previously with Kier and Select Plant, takes the role of operations director – cranes; and Kevin Chambers becomes operations director – lifting solutions. Mr Chambers is the former managing director of Interlift, the company recently acquired by Hewden.

“We’re delighted with these new appointments”, said Hewden CEO, Adrian Murphy, “Mike, Edward and Kevin all bring a tremendous amount of expertise, innovative thinking and leadership qualities to Hewden.

“There’s never been a more exciting time to be involved in this business. We’re investing in our people, our processes and our products to be the leading on-site solutions provider in the UK. With these new appointments, we’re in a better position to achieve those strategic goals.”

Mr Omond started in plant hire as a 16 year old, initially in depot roles and progressing into regional sales and account management at National Grid and Scotia Gas Networks. He became a director at Hydrex Specialist Plant, later becoming managing director of Speedy’s plant and rail division.

Edward Carr began his career at Kier Plant, going on to head its crane and fleet business - overseeing operations for more than 120 cranes and 6000 vehicles. His most recent role was leading Select Hire’s tower crane and hoist businesses.

Kevin Chalmers, meanwhile, founded lifting and materials handling firm Interlift in 2006. During his 10 years as managing director he grew the business to 34 staff across three UK locations.

Interlift provides lifting products and accessories including hoists, lifting straps, shackles, beam and plate clamps, hydraulic lifts, height safety and man riding equipment.
