Global Crane signs US$22 million order with Zoomlion

Zoomlion and USA-based Global Crane Sales signed a US$22 million crane deal on 8 March, the final day of the ConExpo show. All of the 60 rough terrain cranes and ten crawlers ordered at the US construction equipment exhibition are destined for customers in North America.

The order represents a significant step-up of Global Crane’s sales activities in North America. Rental companies Bigge and Amquip are among the buyers. The cranes are mainly 110 US tons (100 tonnes) capacity.

Based in Houston, Texas, Global said it has sold more than 250 Zoomlion cranes in export markets worldwide over the last five years.

Uri Toudjarov, Global Crane president, told IC that the order was in response to improved conditions in the US crane market, with demand picking up; “Infrastructure needs to be improved – lots of bridges need to be maintained. That’s what drives demand for the 110 ton RT crane market.”

Global Crane has set itself ambitious targets for the North American rough terrain market, which has an annual volume of around 1,000 units. “I’ll be happy with 5 % [initially]", said Toudjarov, “but in the future I’ll be looking at dominating the market, with a target 40 % market share. It could be next year – I’m serious.”

Toudjarov said Zoomlion’s RT cranes had a 30 % price advantage over the competition in North America.
