“Like many companies, IT has been considered a back-office activity to ensure appropriate management of risk, compliance and external financial reporting,” said Matt Fearon, Genie president, Terex AWP. “Today, customers are personally interfacing with technology more and expect an experience that is real-time, seamless and issue-free.

”In this role, Scott is tasked with complementing that focus with new IT tools for Genie that will deliver on those customer expectations. His in-depth knowledge and unique experiences will also enable him to help us develop tools and processes that can improve our customers’ fleet management, decision-making and asset optimisation capabilities.”

An engineer by training, McNeal worked for 20 years with General Electric, where he received Six Sigma Black Belt certification and held a variety of senior IT and operational positions. He served as Chief Information Officer in three of the roles, ultimately as CIO for GE Distributed Power Services, a $2.2 billion business unit. For the past two years, he worked for Apptio, a growing company that pioneered the discipline of Technology Business Management and is the industry’s premier provider of TBM SaaS applications.

McNeal said longer term he will expand IT to be a true business partner versus the traditional view of IT as customers continue to ask for more from their relationships with equipment manufacturers. “Opportunities to impact new business models and infuse more connected technology in our factories and our machines will allow me to take my personal experiences, blend with the best-of Genie, and apply with toolsets and frameworks that continue to evolve.”
