Freezing challenge for wind farm equipment move

Kaleido Logistics and Procargo moved heavy wind farm cargo from manufacturers in Spain to a job site in Finland.

Procargo had to deal with extreme weather in Finland

The cargo companies had to deal with extreme weather and limited space onboard liner carriers.

Both members to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC), the companies took on this project jointly. The shipment included a variety of equipment, the largest being a drive train weighing 72 tonnes and 6 metres long.

Kaleido sourced a roro carrier for the movement and arranged the Spanish inland transportation, facing extreme fog with poor visibility along the way to the Port of Santander.

Once the cargo arrived in Finland, Procargo organised the transport from the South Finnish Port of Hanko during night times in the Finnish winter climate.

All cargo got delivered safely to the jobsite in the woodlands nearby Pori.

Strong wind farm investment suggest the offshore industry will continue to remain strong post-pandemic.
