First Liebherr for Crowland Cranes
By Katherine Weir24 March 2016
UK-based Crowland Cranes has purchased a LTC 1050-3.1 compact mobile crane in its first order from Liebherr-Great Britain. The full-specification LTC 1050-3.1 with company livery will be based at the company’s newly-opened Norwich depot.
The LTC 1050-3.1 is proving popular in the UK due to its versatility, compact chassis and strong duty chart, the company said. It has a conventional all terrain chassis allowing it to be switched between different operating requirements. The LTC 1050-3.1 can work as a 50 tonne all terrain crane, a compact city crane and, with its compact design, it is the ideal lifting equipment for operations in very confined spaces.
Constructed around a compact all-wheel-steer chassis providing a 6.1 metre turning circle, the LTC 1050-3.1 has a 36 m, five-section main boom. It has an additional 13 m double swing away fly jib with 1.5 m integrated assembly jib. The assembly jib can be installed with a set of sheaves or searcher hook and one person can swap these parts in the assembly jib without the need to work at height. The assembly jib has a capacity of 25 tonnes.
The LTC 1050-3.1 has a single-operator elevating cabin to give the operator a better view of the lifting area. Mounted on a telescopic arm, the cabin can be moved towards the front of the crane when in road-going mode, providing the operator with the best possible forward and lateral view, Liebherr said. When in lifting mode, the cab can be raised to give a maximum eye level of 7.8 m. The cab also tilts 20 degrees to the rear to allow the operator an unrestricted view of a suspended load. Lifting operations are overseen by Liebherr’s LICCON system, which ensures that the crane stays within its safe limits at all times.
Peter Issitt, managing director at Crowland Cranes, said, “The LTC 1050-3.1 is an interesting and versatile product, enabling our hire desks to offer our customers something a little different from the norm. We have a developing relationship with Liebherr GB and so far the experience from quotation to supply has been a very positive one. I look forward to seeing our relationship develop further and hopefully we shall add more Liebherr units in the future.”
