German crane rental company Völkl, based in Straubing, chose a Grove GMK5220 all terrain crane to build fairground rides for Bavaria’s Gäuboden Folk Festival in Germnay.

The 220 tonne capacity crane joined Völkl’s fleet in August 2013. It is a five-axle all terrain crane with 68 metre boom and a maximum reach of 105 m when configured with a jib.

Its first job was to assemble a fairground ride consisting of a 64 metre tower with parts weighing more than 28 tonnes. Another ride was also assembled at the festival site. The task took days to complete, a company spokesperson said.

Rudolf Völkl, Völkl owner, said, “We have always regarded Grove as a quality brand. We visited their plant in Wilhelmshaven and got to see up close their manufacturing process and wide range of cranes. Our visit also gave Grove a strong understanding of our needs so they could determine which product would be best suited to our work. The GMK5220 is the perfect crane for us.”
