CPA revises rescue guidance

The Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) of the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) in the UK has updated its guidance on the Rescue of Personnel from Tower Cranes technical information note.
The revision of the TIN was carried out following discussions between TCIG and the UK fire and rescue services.
The new revisions suggest that the principal contractor should consult the local fire and rescue service when planning rescue from height from tower cranes, before jobs are carried out. If this option is not available, then other means of rescue need to be arranged. Contractors should seek the advice of the tower crane supplier. Further updates have also been made to the technical information note, Specification and Verification of Replacement Components for Tower Cranes. The CPA states that when ordering parts for tower cranes the parts must meet the original specification of the manufacturer, appropriate, correctly configured and thoroughly checked.
