Brazilian crane contractor gets last Liebherr

By Niamh Marriott12 November 2021

Brazilian crane, heavy haulage and lifting platform contractor Locar took delivery of the final 500 tonne Liebherr LTM 1500 8.1 wheeled mobile telescopic crane.

This Liebherr LTM 1500 8.1 delivered to Locar is the final unit of this model to be manufactured

This is the seventh of these cranes that the company has bought in the last few years.

End of an era

This was the final LTM 1500 8.1 to be manufactured as production has ceased after 23 years.

Liebherr first unveiled its 8-axle LTM 1500-8.1 at the Bauma 1998 tradeshow and has proven popular ever since, the company said, due to its high lifting capacity.

Amilcar Spinetti Filho, technical director at Locar, said, “Our 500 tonne cranes are of great strategic importance for the company as they enable us to work in various market segments such as wind power, petrochemicals and cellulose.

“Despite its massive power, the LTM 1500-8.1 is a crane which can be readied for use quickly and can be used for both long term and short term rentals.“

We decided to stay with Libeherr to ensure interchangeability. What is more, we are very satisfied with the LTM 1500 8.1 cranes in our fleet.“

The company ordered the crane with a complete set of equipment, including the 84 metre telescopic boom, to supplement the accessories of the identical machines in its fleet. This also applies to the lattice jibs and telescopic boom guying systems.

Forseeing economic growth in its country and market, Locar intend to continue to invest in its fleet, personnel and in new technologies.
