German wind power systems manufacturer Areva Wind has purchased a 400 tonne capacity Liebherr all terrain crane.

The Bremerhaven company purchased the LTM 1400-7.1 mobile crane in September.

"Up to now we have been hiring mobile cranes on a grand scale for loading the heavy components. Having our own mobile crane provides us with greater flexibility and greater independence too,” said Olaf Cordes, module manager of the transport and logistics department at Areva Wind.

The new 400 tonne crane will be used for everyday loading work. Areva will continue to hire cranes for additional work when needed.
