Terex will build all three of its crane lines in India

Expansion of the Terex manufacturing footprint will see the USA headquartered company also manufacture all three of its Terex Cranes lines in India.

Terex Cranes which builds tower and rough terrain cranes, is based in Fontanafredda and Crespellano, Italy, respectively. The Franna brand of mobile pick and carry cranes is based in Brisbane, Australia. Production at these facilities will continue and the expansion will mean all three product lines also being manufactured at the Terex facility in Hosur, India, from 2021. Terex has 600 employees in India which includes an R&D unit of more than 150 engineers.

India is one of the largest mobile crane markets in the world, by number of units, according to Off Highway Research, a leading market research specialist. Record sales in 2018 saw almost 12,000 units being sold in the region, which also showed a growing demand for tower cranes, Terex said.

The Terex investment will give open access to the crane market in India and it will allow Terex a key part in developing the country’s infrastructure.

“This is an exciting investment for Terex as we continue to promote and grow the Franna brand globally,” said Danny Black, general manager at Franna. “We have already had very good experience in the Indian market. Now we have the ability to directly bring our market leading Franna technology with local homologation to improve safety and performance for the Indian market. This expansion will allow us to support our growth plans without causing any disruption to our production capacity in Australia and will allow us to be a valued competitor in India. Given our proven manufacturing capabilities with the success of other Terex brands in India such as Powerscreen and Terex Finlay, we are confident this decision will provide a positive outcome for Franna.”

Marco Gentilini, Terex Cranes vice president said, “It is a thrilling opportunity for Terex Cranes to build on the experience and knowledge of the team at Hosur. We have been monitoring the market and we believe it is time to start a new journey that will give us a boost in the important Indian domestic market but also reinforce our presence in the Region.”
