Multi-million dollar contract for Gammon

Gammon Construction has put two Liebherr 380 EC-B 16 Litronic flat top tower cranes to work on the Midfield Concourse project at Hong Kong International Airport.

The HK$6.2 billion (US$800 million) contract was awarded to Gammon Construction by the Airport Authority Hong Kong. The project consists of a new passenger concourse, an extension of the APM tunnel from Terminal 1 to the Concourse, a new taxiway and an extension of the South Runway Road, a spokesperson said. The Midfield Concourse (MFC) will have a range of building services and airport systems, nineteen serviced aircraft stands and aircraft loading bridges.

The 380 EC-B 16 Litronic has a capacity of 16 tonnes. Configured with a 75 m jib it can lift 3.4 tonnes at the tip. The cranes were delivered to Gammon by Shriro Machinery, Liebherr’s distributor for Hong Kong. Both models are on the 355/380 IC tower system.

William Tang, Shriro sales manager, said, “The cranes are being used mainly for lifting steel structural frame elements and beams. The loads will weigh up to 12 tonnes or more, and the specifications for the EC-B16 are such that the two cranes will be handling all the primary lift requirements on the steel structure.”

Gammon’s contract is scheduled for completion in September 2015.
