Kato on Sark island

The Government of Sark island, part of the Channel Islands in the English Channel, off the coast of Normandy, France, has bought a Kato CR-200Ri rough terrain crane. It purchased the crane from Kato’s European distributor, Rivertek Services –  which is based in County Cork, Ireland.

The crane is replacing an existing Kato City Crane that was used for loading and unloading supply boats to the island, using Rivertek’s part exchange crane scheme.

The dimensions of the CR-200Ri are: 8 metres, 71 centimetres long; 2 m, 29 cm wide; and 3 m, 21 cm high. It has a maximum lifting capacity of 20 tonnes at a radius of 2.5 metres and a gross weight of 19,715 kg.

Jeremy Le Trobe Bateman, Seneschal of Sark, commented, “The compact size of the CR-200Ri means it is very easy to move around the island. The controls are very smooth, the operator’s cabin is well-laid-out and comfortable. The two winches as standard is not available from any other manufacturer.”

Its compact size also meant that the crane could be conveniently delivered to the island from Guernsey via a small boat and delivered straight onto the beach.
