Hitachi Sumitomo launches 35 tonner

A new 35 tonne capacity wheeled mobile lattice boom crane has been launched by Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co. in Japan. The UCX350 is being sold through its subsidiary company Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane(Shanghai) Co., Ltd., based in China, where the crane is produced.

The model is based on the former UCX300 and UC25 models. The latter sold 240 units in China since its launch 15 years ago. Features include a strong performance across the lifting chart. The machine is at its best with the outriggers fully extended to 6 m for general use. In this configuration the UCX350 has almost the same lifting capabilities as a 50 tonne capacity truck crane, adds the company.

Basic boom length is 9 m, while maximum boom length is 24 m. The winch drum has reduction gear installed inside the drum, together with a free-fall function. The chassis is powered by an Isuzu 6GB1T engine producing 110kW. The high torsion resistant box-type chassis frame is also a feature, along with the German-made Kessler durable axles, says the Japanese manufacturer. The main hydraulic components are all produced in Japan.

Operator comfort is also key to the design with a new cab, simple, yet functional control layout and three-way visibility, explains the company. Safety features include a shut-off system that deactivates and locks the hydraulic system when the operator leaves the cab. There is also a Japanese-manufactured HL9-A load moment limiter. In addition the engine cover has been redesigned to allow easy access to the radiator, filter and hydraulic circuits.

The list price of the UCX350 is set at RMB2.7 million (US$395,000). The manufacturer has set a sales target of 24 units per year.
