Cadeler signs offshore wind contract

A wind turbine installation vessel from Cadeler will be used on two of Ørsted’s German offshore wind projects, Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3.

A newly signed contract covers the transportation and installation of a minimum of 48 Siemens Gamesa 11 megawatt turbines, which will be located adjacent to Ørsted’s offshore wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Borkum Riffgrund 2, and in the vicinity of Gode Wind 1 and 2.

The installation will be Cadeler’s O-class installation vessel Wind Osprey’s first project with the vessel’s new, upgraded main crane.

Wind Osprey will have a new and upgraded main crane with a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes at a radius of 40 meters, with the main hook at a height of 160 meters above the main deck, a substantial upgrade of the vessel capacity today.

Upon completion, the combined capacity of the wind farms at Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 will have a total capacity of more than 1 gigawatts.

The projects are expected to be fully commissioned in 2024 and 2025 respectively, subject to Ørsted’s final investment decision.

Cadeler were named as Ørsted’s preferred supplier in October 2021.

The installation of this Siemens Gamesa 11 megawatt wind turbine generator has become somewhat of a specialty for the Cadeler’s O-class vessels, the company says, and will be employed in all current projects of the similar type of installation in the region.

Cadeler’s CEO, Mikkel Gleerup said, “This project is an important one for us.
