Another 1,600 tonne Huisman crane order

Dutch crane and engineering specialist Huisman has won a contract with Fred Olsen Windcarrier to build another 1,600 tonne capacity leg encircling crane (LEC). It will be installed on its jack-up offshore wind turbine installation vessel Brave Tern.

This order follows the previous order of a 1,600 tonne LEC in March 2020. The company said this is part of a major fleet upgrade for Fred Olsen Windcarrier.

Crane specifics
The LEC will have a 140 metre boom which will have a lifting height of 165 metres above deck.

With its upgraded cranes, the vessels of Fred Olsen Windcarrier will be capable of installing larger foundations and handling next generation turbines.

Huisman has designed its LECs to meet the requirements of the continually developing offshore renewables sector. It said its cranes are lightweight, have high positioning accuracy and are highly energy efficient.

The crane will feature a small tail swing which offers optimal deck space, it was said.

Earlier this year, Huisman signed a deal with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to build a second 2,600 tonne capacity crane for the company.
