Tadano to use more Rolls-Royce engines

Crane manufacturer Tadano said it will increase the number of Rolls-Royce mtu engines used across its product ranges as it harmonises the crane portfolios of its German subsidiaries Tadano Faun and Tadano Demag.

The mtu engines will now feature on the company’s all-terrain cranes. 

Expansion of the partnership will see the sale of around 3,000 mtu engines and Daimler transmissions by the end of 2025. This is a move that Tadano hopes will strengthen the cooperation between the two companies.

Most of Tadano’s 26 crane models with two to nine axes and payloads from 45 to 700 tonnes are already powered by in-line mtu Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines. 

These deliver power outputs from 129 to 480 kW and are compliant with EU Stage III to V emissions standards.

High-torque mtu engines already power all of Tadano’s crawler cranes.

Jens Ennen, president and CEO at Tadano Faun and Tadano Demag in Germany said, “This cooperation agreement marks a milestone in the re-orientation of our mobile crane business. Dr Lei Berners-Wu, vice president Global Industrial at Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems, said: “This agreement deepens the cooperation between two companies who are already an excellent fit.”

Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems is currently undergoing a transformation from engine manufacturer to provider of integrated drive and power generation solutions. It intends to offer climate neutral solutions, and most of the engines supplied to Tadano can be used with sustainable fuels.
