Manitowoc launches two all terrain cranes

Manufacturer Manitowoc has launched two new all terrain cranes, the Grove GMK5120L and the Grove GMK5150XL, at the company’s Wilhelmshaven facility in Northern Germany.

The 120 tonne capacity GMK5120L offers longer reach with its 66 metre main boom.

Compact dimensions of 14.195 metres overall length and 2.75 metre width, as well as good manoeuvrability from the Megatrak suspension, mean it offers good access to jobsites, Manitowoc said.

The other crane launched was the 150 tonne capacity  GMK5150XL all terrain on a five axle carrier. It has a 69 metre boom.

Taxi configurations start with 1 tonne of counterweight, the company said. For configurations maintaining 12 tonne per axle, the GMK5150XL can carry up to 10.2 tonnes of counterweight.

Also, the heavy roadable counterweight configuration (at 16.5 tonnes per axle for the UK) makes it possible to drive with 30.9 tonnes of counterweight on board.

Another feature is the Maxbase variable outrigger positioning system to optimise the crane set up and lifting positions.

Both the GMK5120L and the GMK5150XL come with the new design of carrier cab, which seats the operator an extra 235 millimetres away from the centreline to enhance visibility.

During the customer events, potential buyers could also look at the new GMK6400-1 upgrade of the GMK6400, shown in the iron after its virtual launch at the ConExpo show in March 2020.

Tagged as being able to take on jobs that would usually require a seven or eight axle model, this 400 tonner has an improved hydraulic system with faster flow to provide quicker operating speeds, the company said.

It uses Manitowoc’s crane control system and the Maxbase outrigger positioning system.

All Grove all terrain cranes can be run on the hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) alternative to diesel, the manufacturer said.
